• The fish farm Edakochi is a potential brackish water fish farm located in Edakochi village of Kochi taluk in Ernakulam district. The water source for the farm is the Kaithapuzhakayal embedded in the Vembanad lake system. Species that tolerate wide range of salinity fluctuations are farming, as salinity drop to near zero during monsoon. The farm is renovated under RIDF
• It has a total area of 10.93 ha with a water spread area of 9.6 ha. It is divided into 4 large ponds of 2 ha each numbered P1, P4, P5 & P8 and 4 small ponds of 0.4 ha area each numbered P2, P3, P6 & P7
• It is a model farm for new aquaculture initiatives. The objective is to increase inland fish production by adopting sustainable and scientific aquaculture practices like cage culture of potentially brackish water species pearlspot and pond culture of grey-mullet and milkfish. It is proposed to produce 37.2 ton of fish worth Rs.143 lakhs during next season
• One technical staff and five labourers are working in the farm
