Model Shrimp Farm, Poyya
- The Model Shrimp Farm & Training Centre, Poyya is situated in Poyya Gramapanchayat in Thrissur District, started its operations during 1993-94. It is one of the largest farms of this kind in Government Sector in India. The farm is located 8 km away from the Arabian Sea and saline water reaches the farm through Munambam estuary. The whole area is surrounded by backwater and thick vegetation
- The Farm has a total area of 49.24 ha with 28 ponds having 39.15 ha effective farming area
- It is a model farm established for the popularization of shrimp farming. Presently farming of vannamei shrimp, pearlspot and milkfish is progressing there. Cage farming of pompano, pearlspot and seabass is also undertaken
- Seed production of pearlspot and nursery rearing of grey-mullet and milkfish is practicing there mainly to cater the needs of farmers of central districts of the State
- It is proposed to produce 57.3 lakh number of seed and 207 ton of fish worth Rs.869.99 lakh during next season. Three technical staff, three ministerial staff and twenty labourers are working in the farm
